The cooperative principle consists of four maxims: the maxim of quantity, which states that one should give only as much information as is required; the maxim of quality, which states that one should provide truthful and reliable information; the maxim of relation, which states that one should be relevant to the topic being discussed; and the maxim of manner, which states that one should be clear and concise in communication.
